Job Type: Visual screen planting between new hydroponic strawberry farm & neighbour
Far North Holdings required a landscaper to plant and maintain a section on land to screen a residential property from their newly installed tunnel house complex. We worked closely with the landscape architect Simon Crocker who recommended us for the job having worked with us in the past. Native plants were to be planted along a section but first the area had to be cleared of weeds and a fence installed. The residential property was certified as organic so weed control methods had to meet stringent organic requirements including organic herbicides and large quantities of mulch. Access was a challenge so part of the neighbour’s fence had to be removed and replaced on completion. Both the client, Far North Holdings, and the neighbouring residential property were very happy with the process and final outcome. Testimonial: "We can confirm that we worked closely with Kereru Developments on a project that required specific, no spraying, maintenance program on a newly developed site and alongside a specific neighbour who requested such a maintenance plan. We appointed Kereru Developments to undertake this maintenance work for us and we are very happy with the manner in which the work was carried out, and in particular their understanding of the neighbours’ requirements and ability to liaise and work with them keeping them informed as required. We would happily reappoint Kereru Developments should we require such high level of property maintenance again." Irwin Wilson, Business Development Manager. Far North Holdings Limited.

Job Type: Health centre garden revitalisation
Broadway Health Centre in Waipapa had an overgrown weed filled roadside garden and wanted beautification of the entrance to their facility. We were recommended by another client for this job. We met with the client to create a plan for the revamp of the area between the car park and the roadside. It had to fit their tight budget and safety requirements. Traffic management was going to be a challenge, but this was resolved with safety barriers and staff training. Close liaising with the customer was needed to plan for times of work to ensure patient disruption was kept to a minimum. Working at times of low traffic periods for example. We also knew there were effluent lines in the area, so we created a health and safety plan to mitigate issues around this and used caution when working in these areas. Works were completed on time and on budget, the Health Centre were happy with the results and are looking forward to watching the landscape mature over time. Testimonial: “Ali and the team at Kereru Development went above and beyond when clearing and replanting our roadside garden area. We were very happy with their approach as they ensured their work did not impact the daily operational running of the medical practice or adjoining pharmacy. The safety of our staff, patients and visitors was their priority throughout. We were able to retain full use of our carpark, and they regularly engaged with our Practice Manager throughout all stages of the project. It pays to have a team who can recognise what is needed to keep ongoing costs and time to a minimum when it comes to maintaining gardens in a workspace. I found Ali took the time to consider all options with us. He communicated recommendations and took the time to think with my team. The reality is we are a Medical Centre our focus is on the inside of the building and taking the time to care for high maintenance gardens was never going to be an option, Ali understood this and gave us exactly what we needed. We would not hesitate to use Kereru Development again for future projects.” Jessie Hoskins, CEO, Broadway Health Management Ltd

Location: BP, Waipapa
Date: June 2021 – June 2021
Job Type: Waipapa fuel station retaining wall
BP expanded their forecourt into the hillside which required an engineered retaining wall and boundary fence to be constructed. Ground density was not adequate for the initial engineer’s plan therefore the wall had to be redesigned and repriced to include a new method of wall construction to meet engineer sign off. New construction was challenging to implement in the very tight space, so we had to produce an innovative way to construct that did not damage any surrounding structures, this we achieved. Additional stormwater piping was added on our recommendation to divert water into a controlled system. The redesign met the expectations of the engineer and client and was completed within the quoted price without needing variations. We also added hay-bales to the soil finish on the top carpark to reduce soil displacement after job completion.
