As we move towards the cooler months in Kerikeri and the wider Bay of Islands, it’s one of the best times of year to focus on your garden and wider landscaping.

Autumn offers ideal conditions for planting. With cooler temperatures and more consistent moisture in the soil, plants experience less stress compared to the heat of summer. This allows roots to establish more effectively before winter, setting plants up for strong growth in spring.

Whether you’re adding new trees, refreshing garden beds, or enhancing larger landscapes, planting at this time of year improves survival rates and reduces the amount of watering and maintenance required during establishment.

It’s also an excellent time for pruning. As growth begins to slow, strategic pruning helps shape plants, remove damaged or dead material, and encourage healthy structure for the coming season. Proper pruning not only improves appearance but also promotes stronger, more resilient growth.

At Kererū Development, we’re preparing for a busy planting and pruning season. If you’ve been thinking about updating your garden, adding new planting, or tidying established areas, now is the time to plan.

Get in touch with us to discuss planting, pruning, or broader landscaping improvements — we’re here to help you make the most of the season.
